It’s been snowing 4-6” every day and this run Moose had around 30” of powder snow. I would have done more than one run today but I got a blister on my left heal and I want to do this again tomorrow.
I currently have no regrets buying alpine touring gear. I got my setup used and everything is working great, I might even be getting some fitness from all of this uphill skiing.

Damn, I always forget how much snow, so late, you guys can get up there. That’s wild.

It typically keeps accumulating through the end of April. I think there is 120” at the top right now and around 60 at the bottom, with more coming our way.

I got out last week but it’s getting so warm lately the snow sticks to the skins unless you get out real early. Glad someone’s getting after it!

The skin track is pretty well beat in so the sticking snow really isn’t a problem.

Pouring rain here and supposedly snowing at least two feet at Tahoe.

That’s so beautiful. More appealing on my screen than in person, of course. However, were I still able to ski, I’d be wishing I were right there with you.

It sucks that Mammoth is super closed, even to uphill. So even if I wanted to get into that, its just not possible. Theres a nice uphill track all the way up to the top too. Not interested in going backcountry, just far too dangerous but uphill in a resort sounds excellent!

This outfit can make that possible. They do great thing for lots of people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to do these types of activities.
If you make it up here you can drive the Datsun too!

Yeah I feel very safe skiing inbounds at the resort as long as I stick to runs that don’t usually need avalanche control.

Ironic, was a terrible ski year in Tahoe now it’s snowing a ton.

That would be cool.

I’d still ski with the beacon, shovel, probe, and some buddies though either way to be safe. That would definitely be a safe level of risk under all of those conditions. But then again if it were open, thered probably be 9,000,000 others out there with the same idea and probably even less backcountry experience.

Yeah, i t’s good to have someone around to help if things go south. When you’re skiing with a buddy you’ll usually stay 6' apart anyway :)

Christ that’s a big fucking sun! Is MT like 5 miles from the sun, or something?

I feel sorry for the ski resorts - not a lot of snow, COVID hits and now snow with no customers....

I should have read down thread, I see...

You should not feel any safer on a closed resort than in the Backcountry. The reason less runs need avy control is skier compaction. Right now no one is doing any control work and there aren’t the normal number of skiers to pack the snow down. Please make sure you’re staying on runs well under 30 degrees and stay out of terrain traps like gully s and roll overs. This is coming from someone that used to ski patrol.
